First Aid day! By Yun-Ha
First aid was a very enjoyable program. At First aid we learnt about how to save unconscious people. Nikoli was our teacher. We first learnt what DRSAB D = Danger, Danger means before you save the person you are saving, You need to make sure YOU don't get hurt. R = Response, Response is were you check if they can answer by saying "Hello? My name is _______" and gently shaking their arm. S = Search for help. Searching for help basically is calling the emergency number (111). A = Air-pipe. If you don't know what an air-pipe it's where the part of your body were they take the oxygen to the lungs.
B = Breathing. You obviously need to check if they're breathing. To check if they are breathing you have to check by putting your hand over their nose, check their stomach to see if it's moving and listen to them breathing. I 100% did just because he was laughing so much, I wouldn't blame him For i did too. But if they aren't then that means you have to do CPR which we didn't learn about.
Right after she told us what DRSAB meant she Demonstrated it (with Archit as the volunteer). As soon as she finished demonstrating. We had to do it right after with a buddy. She told us to choose wisely but i just chose my friend Albert (Don't tell anybody). I understood why she told us to choose wisely after. We started to laugh so much that we couldn't even do it correct. I had to hold my breath for literally a minute. But obviously I couldn't stand it, I bursted out with laughter, so did Albert. But we tried to keep it in. When Nikoli or Mr Van Beusekom came to watch us do it, for we were the last people because we laughed so much, we held our breath for another minute. It was fine though. We both had to do both roles 2 times. One person being the unconscious person and the other being the saver. I enjoyed that part but not my favourite.
Then we went into groups of three for the next part. The next part was about bee stings, minor wounds and burns. First we learnt about bee stings and how to heal it. First you take the bee sting out of the person. The easiest way was to just flick it out. While you're doing that you need to ask them if they ever got stung before for things like allergies. Next you had to put ice on it like an ice pack to make sure the sting doesn't get any bigger. Then right after you put something to cover it like an towel or a cloth. Next it we learnt about minor wounds. All we had to do was clean, then cover. We use band aids to cover it. The last part was all about burns. Burns was the hardest part. We had to run it down (Fake) running water for 20 minutes but we just pretended. Then we had to dry it with a cloth or towel. Right after you need to cover it with a band-aid. I enjoyed this activity because it helped me understand how to deal with Bee Stings, Minor Wounds and Burns.
